You've Got to Try These San Diego Surefire Bets to Make Lifelong Memories

Where to Stay in San Diego in 2023 | Travellers 🧳

There are many things you can do in San Diego to make memories that last a lifetime

All of the theme parks and attractions listed below are day-long excursions, except for the Midway San Diego Museum, which is only open for part of the day. Make your day in the sun as comfortable as possible by wearing comfortable walking shoes, plenty of sunscreen, and a smile!

LEGOLAND CALIFORNIA

In addition to more than 60 interactive attractions, rides, and shows, LEGOLAND California spans 128 acres. Families with children 2 to 12 years of age can even benefit from them, since some of them are kid-powered.

In LEGOLAND Water Park, you can build rafts themed around LEGOs and slide down seven slides. A visit to SEA LIFE Aquarium will allow guests to see underwater creatures such as sea stars, sharks, and stingrays!

With 250 LEGO-themed rooms at the nation's first LEGOLAND Hotel, you can experience the full LEGO experience and start the day early.

SAN DIEGO ZOO

We have a world-famous Zoo with 3500 animals of 650 rare and exotic species on a 100-acre tropical garden. There are magnificent bioclimatic exhibits like Monkey Trails, Lost Forest, Elephant Odyssey, Gorilla Tropics, Sun Bear Forest, and Tiger River that accommodate endangered species in environments that mimic their natural habitats. In the new Wildlife Explorers Basecamp (which replaces the old Children's Zoo), children can play with interactive areas and get up-close to zoo critters.

Besides viewing the huge variety of animals, you can take a guided bus tour, ride the sky tram, and interact with the adorable creatures in the petting zoo for kids.

SAN DIEGO ZOO SAFARI PARK

A Safari Park is an up-close view of wild nature at its finest, and was formerly called the Wild Animal Park. On the 1800-acre preserve, animals from Africa and Asia roam freely like they would in their natural habitats. This unique field exhibit houses rhinos, giraffes, antelope, gazelles, and more that can be seen on the Africa Tram Safari.

The sprawling park in pretty San Pasqual Valley is just 30 miles northeast of downtown in San Diego's north inland region. Get comfortable walking shoes, and prepare to spend an entire day exploring, watching cheetahs run at full speed, seeing African lions up close, or looking up at majestic eagles, noble owls and rare Andean condors.

SEAWORLD SAN DIEGO

Located along glistening Mission Bay, SeaWorld San Diego is full of magic. The park features dozens of exhibits containing marine life from around the world, along with spectacular animal shows and presentations. You'll create lifetime memories during exclusive encounters with dolphins and sloths. In the park's Penguin Encounter, visitors can see six different species of penguins swimming and waddling in a 25-degree habitat. Join Wild Arctic on a journey to the frozen north, and see beluga whales, northern sea otters and walruses. Take a dive into Turtle Reef to learn more about sea turtles. It contains some of the world's most threatened sea turtles, an interactive game that informs kids about threats turtles face in the wild, and a map that tracks the location of rehabilitated turtles.

SESAME PLACE SAN DIEGO

An aquatic wonderland of 18 rides themed to Sesame Street awaits families at San Diego theme park. Only the Sesame Place on the West Coast boasts a kid-friendly roller coaster and a 500000-gallon wave pool. Located in San Diego's South Bay, the park, operated by SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment, is also certified as a center for autism.

USS MIDWAY MUSEUM

Located along the Embarcadero, the USS Midway Museum is one of San Diego's great maritime treasures. In the 20th century, it had the longest service as a U.S. Navy aircraft carrier. Experience nearly 59 years of world history as you explore the large engine room, bunk rooms, galley, and brig. With more than 20 aircraft on the 4-acre flight deck, there are climbing cockpits and flight simulators for kids of all ages. For children between the ages of 7 and 12 years old, an audio guide tour is recommended.

DAY TRIP TO DISNEYLAND

It is an excellent home base for a day trip to Disneyland as well as exploring San Diego's attractions. Cars and trains are both available to reach the Magic Kingdom from downtown San Diego in just 90 minutes. The next day, take advantage of San Diego's laid-back lifestyle and spend the day relaxing by the beach.
