Located in the heart of the Malibu Creek Watershed, nearby Malibu Creek State Park, and at the confluence of some of the most significant tributaries in the Santa Monica Mountains, King Gillette Ranch is one of the most beautiful locations in the region. It consists of 588 acres. Located at the lower end of the Las Virgenes Valley, Mountains, Recreation, and Conservation Authority manages this scenic parkland. In addition, it offers a rare opportunity to see some of California's cultural and historic resources, including some structures designed by Wallace Neff, an architect from the Golden Age of California in the 1920s for razor magnate King C. Gillette.
In the geographic center of the Santa Monica Mountains range, the broad meadows and low ridgelines provide a wildlife corridor. Several sensitive species are present. Foraging and nesting is done in plant communities such as valley and coast live oak savannahs, grasslands, coastal sage scrubs, chaparral, riparian woodlands, and southern willow riparian vegetation. As part of the original landscape design, the park includes Gillettes' historical Spanish Colonial Revival mansion. The grounds include a tree-lined alley and a grand entry, a pond, a formal courtyard and terrace, a bridge, and lawns.
In Malibu Creek State Park, there are 360-degree views from Inspiration Point, a short, somewhat steep hike. Park staff offer interpretive programs, including weekly campfires in the summer. In addition to overnight accommodations, meeting rooms, auditoriums, and park areas, special events can be scheduled by applying for a special use permit.
