This gray and unassuming airplane hangar, located near the Van Nuys airport in California, lies thousands of memories and hundreds of years of colorful San Fernando Valley buried treasure just waiting to be discovered by YOU! This is the only place where you can experience Valley Relics Museum. This museum could be the perfect venue for your next unique event or unorthodox wedding celebration. Come along and see what we have to offer.
The 405 Freeway
North Hollywood, Woodland Hills, Tarzana, Encino, Sherman Oaks, Van Nuys, and Tarzana were all part of these acreages. The ranch raised 40000 sheep by 1873. Wheat was grown instead of wool when wool prices fell. He built Interstate 405 to transport wheat from the valley to Santa Monica. As of 1876, it was a toll road that could generate additional income for the men. Angelenos continue to feel that the 405 costs them not in money, but in their sanity, even though today's 405 is a freeway and not a payway or toll road.
Originally, Van Nuys was a ranch owned by Isaac Van Nuys and became a townsite. A landmark house, statue, or even a formal portrait of the land baron does not exist. Only his name was left behind.
The first high school in the valley was located in Van Nuys, and there are still several storefronts that date back to the early 1900s. When produce was sent by rail to downtown markets, there was farming, canning, and an old ice plant. In today's world, the Union Ice Plant stands next to the Orange Bus Line.
Striking out in the SFV
American post-WWII society benefited greatly from the sport of bowling. In areas such as west Los Angeles and the San Fernando Valley, modern bowling centers were built in large numbers during the postwar era on the west side.
Lighting Up LA
At The Valley Relics Museum, neon and bulb signage is something you just can't ignore. The walls of this luminous place are adorned with hundreds of neon and bulb signs, both large and small. Usually, neon signs are made from glass tubes filled with inert gas and bent into letters or shapes. Electric current flows through tubes causing electrons to flow through gases, causing them to glow. Argon gas gives off a steel blue light in a clear glass tube, while neon gas emits a red light.
When Earl C. Anthony imported neon signs from Paris, France to his Packard dealership downtown in 1923, American neon became a reality. It was their goal to grab people's attention, and their crisp, bright light literally stopped traffic. It has been estimated that neon signs resembled electric signs originally lighted by long luminous gas-discharge tubes containing rarefied neon or other gases; however, today's neon signs are as far from their original design as now. LED lighting's less expensive price tag and neon gases' fragile nature led to this art form's decline.
Lake Worth Playhouse in Lake Worth, Florida has what may be the oldest surviving neon sign in the country, still in use for its original purpose.
In the midst of demolitions of Valley establishments, the Valley Relics Museum is dedicated to preserving original neon and painted signs that are sadly destined for the scrap yard or wrecking ball. He recently saved the original sign from Oil Can Harrys, the oldest gay club in Los Angeles. My Saturday nights on the dance floor were often filled with disco fun!
Even though the Valley now has approximately 1540,948 residents, imagine what it was like in the early 1800s when settlers arrived here to improve their lives and those of their families. A decade ago, there were flowering trees, cattle ranching, sheep ranching, large-scale wheat farming, and fruit orchards.
The Valley Old Hollywood
In reality, so much of the film industry is north of the walk of fame. There were a lot of movie ranches at the height of Old Westerns. Sets created specifically for movie production.
A movie ranch can be purchased by a film company for the purpose of location shooting, or it can be created by a small production company that cannot afford to buy their own ranch.
In what is now Chatsworth, Iverson Movie Ranch was the most popular movie ranch. Iverson Ranch has been the set of more than 2500 motion pictures and television shows.
Fast Food Nation
Fast food restaurants became very popular during the 1950s because families were busy and they needed a place where they could quickly pick up food; people also wanted to be able to get quick food that they could eat in front of their new purchase the Television. Below are some examples of McDonalds and Pioneer Chicken uniforms, as well as Jack in the Box's original Jack head ordering system. The one in the case is an original (unrestored), while the lumiated one has been refurbished.
Various studies have found that red, yellow, and orange colors influence your brain's perception of hunger. The fact that so many fast food companies utilize this palette in their logos and advertising is perhaps a coincidence. I think not!
